Tattoo Removal

We own the state-of-the-art Q-Yag-5 laser for tattoo removal. This laser has direct operator control through the hand piece, offering precise, faster, and more comfortable treatment sessions. The laser works by directing an intense beam of light at a particular color of the tattoo, causing it to break into multiple small fragments which are taken away by the body’s defense cells. With the precise control of this laser, the skin is rarely broken. This differs from conventional tattoo lasers which often cause bleeding through damage to the skin surface as the imprecise beam tries to reach the actual tattoo pigment. Since the body’s defense cells are involved, blisters and vesicles sometimes appear. This is good—indicating that your body is doing its work to remove the color.

Blue/black and red inks fade best. Oranges and purples take longer to treat. Green, sky blue and yellow are the most difficult to treat. Since over 300 tattoo inks are in use worldwide, it is impossible to predict the ease and degree of removal of a given tattoo. Professional tattoos usually take more treatments than amateur tattoos. The average tattoo in our practice takes 6-8 sessions with some taking less and some more.

Treatments usually take less than 15 minutes. For sensitive body areas, topical anesthesia is available. A dressing is placed following treatment. We instruct you in wound care, with dressings as needed for 2-7 days. It is important to protect exposed areas that are being treated with sun blocker of spf 30 or greater.
